Just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve reassessed my social profile and the available options, and I’ve made the decision to jump back in to the fray on the social media front.
A few things that I hope goes better this time:
- No Facebook: I refuse to jump back into that mess. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but I’ve gotten absolutely no business benefit from Facebook. Ever.
- Google+ : I’m not sure it’s better than Facebook. It’s certainly not anywhere near as popular, and likely never will be. But it’s clean, simple and fun. And I’ve never been disappointed by Google. Heck, I even liked Buzz while it was around, so I think I’m going to stick with Plus for as long as it sticks around.
- Back to Twitter: I actually missed Twitter, but not the noise. I created the problem myself in that case by following all my peers instead of my target audience. Not that there’s anything wrong with connecting with my peers, but that’s ALL I was doing. I was preaching to the choir. This time, I won’t.
- Back to LinkedIn: I think LinkedIn is by far the most powerful social network for business people, so it’s my number one priority on the social scene right now. Going forward, I’m going to adhere to a strict 80-10-10 rule for site engagement: 80% of my available time on LinkedIn, 10% on Twitter and 10% on Plus.
So, if you’re reading this and you’re interested in connecting with me, I welcome you wholeheartedly.
If you’re not interested in connecting with me, I’m going to try very hard not to whine about it. (That was a problem last time too.)
Because if I manage to collect 100 really-freaking-excited followers on Twitter, I’ll take that over 1000 bored clutterers any day.
I’m interested in your feedback: Am I being to hard on Facebook? Is Google+ a flash-in-the-pan? Should I adjust my percentages?
